What are Gummy Bear Implants?

Apr 6, 2018 | Breast

One of the most popular types of breast implants used in my practice are Gummy Bear implants. Gummy Bear, or cohesive gel implants are a type of silicone breast implant with a thicker, form-stable silicone gel, and are often anatomical—in other words, designed to mimic the tear drop shape of a natural breast.

Gummy bear implants are a good option for patients who lack a lot of native breast tissue, as they result in a more natural-looking shaped breast, since they are larger at the base and smaller at the top. This type of implant is also a recommended option for transgender females undergoing a top surgery, which is the feminization of the chest with breast implants.

Can you Get Fat Injected into Your Breasts?

Many women come to me asking whether or not they can get fat injected into their breasts. Not all women want breast implants, and would like an alternative.

The answer is yes, you can have a natural breast augmentation with fat. The fat can be removed with liposuction from any unwanted areas including hips, flanks, and abdomen, and injected into the breasts.

I perform fat grafting in multiple planes including under the muscle to give the best, most natural enhancement to my patients. Fat grafting is a great solution for someone who wants to bring their breast size up a cup or so and use natural tissue vs. an implant. However, it can also be combined with an implant or used as a secondary procedure to fill in areas that are flat or thin.

A fat transfer to the breast should not affect nipple sensation, mammograms, increase cancer risk, or affect breast feeding. The great thing about a fat transfer to the breasts is that once it is injected, it becomes part of your body, meaning if you gain or lose weight, the transferred fat can do the same.

Breast Lift or Implants?

Breast lift or implants? This is a very common question.

Depending on your situation and individual needs, I may suggest a breast lift or breast implants, or in some cases, both.

For women who have overly large sagging breasts and would like their breasts reduced and repositioned higher on their chest wall, I recommend what is called a LipoLift®. I perform this unique liposuction breast lift to remove tissue from the areas they don't want such as near the armpit and the lower portion hanging near the stomach, while preserving the upper pole fullness (cleavage). Once I have reshaped the breast I then remove the skin to tighten the breast and create a better shape with nice cleavage.

Since a LipoLift® is less invasive than a traditional breast lift, the recovery time is generally faster and drains are not necessary. It works very well if there are asymmetries as well. Fat that is removed from the breast during the LipoLift® can be grafted back into the breasts to create balance between the breasts, or create more projection at the top and cleavage. Additionally, if the patient has shoulder grooves from wearing bras, I can also use the fat to fill these areas in and give them more cushioning as well as contour.

This procedure can also be combined with an implant if needed or wanted to correct that deflated feeling from having breastfed. For women who have small or deflated breasts, I recommend a breast augmentation with implants in conjunction with a LipoLift®. The size of breast implant would depend on the proportion with your body versus going for a cup size, and should not affect mammograms, cancer risk, or prevent breast feeding.
