Overview

If you suffer from complications from a previous augmentation procedure, have experienced a ruptured implant, have a breast implant-related illness, require capsular contracture treatment, or simply have changed your mind about your breast implants, you may benefit greatly from a signature breast implant removal procedure performed by Dr. Schwartz.

Breast Implant Illness

Although the risk is low, women can develop sicknesses and/or diseases related to and caused by their breast implants. Called breast implant illness, these conditions range in severity from autoimmune symptoms to breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL. In these instances, breast implants must be promptly removed.

Autoimmune Symptoms
Autoimmune disease is a condition where your immune cells attack your body in an effort to eliminate what they consider to be foreign substances. These cells typically help our bodies battle infections. Occasionally, our immune systems view implants as foreign bodies and begin responding in defense. Symptoms of an autoimmune response may include joint pain, fatigue, confusion, hair loss, and chronic dry eye. Over time, women may begin to experience more serious symptoms that can be diagnosed as lupus, scleroderma, and other similar diseases.

BIA-ALCL
Individuals with breast implants have a small risk of developing breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL. This is not breast cancer but a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. When BIA-ALCL is found in women with implants, it is most commonly discovered in the scar tissue near the incision site, but in rare cases, it can spread throughout the body.

Signature implant removal

Clients with ruptured, infected, or hardened (capsular) breast implants may seek out a signature breast implant removal procedure to safeguard their overall health. Dr. Schwartz has many years of experience working as a reconstructive surgeon for breast cancer patients, and he also has a reputation for precision, safety, and aesthetic excellence when it comes to breast surgery results.

When an implant ruptures, it can cause not only cosmetic damage, but it may also result in pain or discomfort for the client. Another complication is an infection, which is rare but sometimes does occur, during the augmentation process. Capsular contracture is a serious complication of breast augmentation that occurs when the scar tissue hardens to the point that it contracts around the implant and causes pain, as well as an unnatural shape and appearance of the breast.

In all of these instances, Dr. Schwartz will need to remove the implant or replace it in order to protect your health.

signature IMPLANT REPLACEMENT

Some women may tire of their current breast implants and seek out a removal and replacement to achieve a different look. They may be unhappy with the shape or texture of the implants or feel their breasts look too large. Clients that are happy with their implants may still opt for a routine removal and replacement, as breast implants are not meant to remain in the body forever, and they should be removed and replaced every 10-15 years.

signature removal and lift

After removing the breast implants, Dr. Schwartz will examine your breasts to see what is necessary for an aesthetically pleasing outcome. If needed, he will perform a breast lift to create a perkier, more youthful appearance of the breasts. If you are concerned about deflation after the implants have been removed, he can perform a fat transfer to replace loss of volume. He will customize your treatment to your unique needs and goals after implant removal.

Schwartz rapid recuperation™

Thanks to Dr. Schwartz’s Rapid Recuperation technique, most clients are out to dinner the next evening after surgery. This sophisticated method of gentle anesthesia and injectable numbing medications allows most women to be back at work in a few days.

breast implant removal FAQs

what about Sagging?

Breast implant removal without a replacement or an augmentation may result in deflated or sagging breasts. Dr. Schwartz's goal is to provide you with the most pleasing and natural-looking results possible. During your consultation, you can discuss additional procedures to address these issues, which may include performing a breast lift or a fat transfer to help restore a youthful appearance to the breasts.

Which Incision is Best?

Dr. Schwartz will reopen the incisions made during the primary breast augmentation. He will check for rupturing and then carefully remove the existing implants, as well as address any leakage. In the case of a saline implant, Dr. Schwartz will simply deflate it before removal. Any attendant scar tissue will also be excised.
