Overview

Nobody has the perfect physique and each of us has things we would love to change about our bodies, such as specific pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. Because of technological advances, it is no longer necessary to decide between tolerating the unwanted fat and surgical fat removal. CoolSculpting is a cutting-edge fat cell minimizing procedure created to sculpt and shape the body by freezing away difficult fat, all without going under the knife. The procedure employs the application of monitored cooling, also known as cryolipolysis, to freeze fat cells so that they may be organically removed from your body to create a leaner silhouette. Dr. Jaime S. Schwartz in Beverly Hills, CA uses advanced CoolSculpting techniques to help you achieve your plastic surgery goals. Schedule an appointment for more information about CoolSculpting and find out if this procedure is the right one for you.

Procedure Technique

Following your initial appointment with Dr. Schwartz to create your treatment plan, your first procedure will be arranged. At your appointment, the CoolSculpting handpiece and a special gel pad will be used on the desired area and cryolipolysis will be initiated. The cooling technology, delivered through the handpiece, will target and freeze the fat. It is not uncommon to experience a cold sensation while receiving procedure, but this should not create pain. Because the handpiece uses suction to pull the fat toward the area to be treated, you can expect to experience a minor pulling or stinging, but these will be completely normal sensations.

Treating Coolsculpting Complications

Liposuction for Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia

Using Liposuction to treat Coolsculpting complications such as Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia, uneven or stubborn areas, or step offs.

The Problem

Millions of Coolsculpting treatments have been performed with good results — often approximately 25% fat reduction in the treatment area. However, a rare side effect has been seen where the fat grows in an area rather than being removed. Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) following Coolsculpting has been reported as a deforming complication. The exact cause is not known, but the fat cells tend to hypertrophy (grow larger) and also become more fibrous. The areas that have Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia are often larger and harder than the original treatment area. This leads to an even more unnatural appearance.

What's more concerning is that the areas of growth tend to stay permanently even with weight loss. Further cryolipolysis treatments can also worsen it.

The Solution

The best treatment for PAH is to perform permanent liposuction of the area. Dr. Schwartz utilizes the SAFE technique to remove the uneven, permanent areas of fat and blend them for smooth contour with the rest of your body.

Since this is a known side effect, Zeltiq and Allergan offer some financial assistance to correct Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia. You will need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Schwartz and bring your previous treatments records, including before photos.

During/After Procedure

As CoolSculpting is noninvasive, you can return to normal activities after procedure. Typically, patients can return to school or work immediately after their procedure. You should expect to enjoy results within three weeks, with the most impressive results appearing 1 – 3 months following your CoolSculpting procedure.
