Do I Need To Gain Weight For a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Feb 26, 2020 | Body

The rail-thin look that once defined beauty standards is being replaced by a more natural contour more and more often these days. One of the hallmarks of an enviable figure is now a fuller, rounder backside, thanks in part to celebrities like J. Lo and Kim Kardashian. While some men and women are blessed with naturally plump rear ends, many people struggle to achieve their desired look due to genetics, sagging skin after weight loss, or the aging process alone. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery now offers patients the opportunity to have a firmer and shapelier backside with the wildly popular Brazilian butt lift procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jaime Schwartz possesses the exceptional level of skill and artistry required of a BBL surgeon and has successfully helped Beverly Hills men and women enhance their look with the procedure time and time again.

WHAT IS A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT?

Though its name can be misleading, the Brazilian butt lift is not a traditional lift procedure, like a breast lift, which involves the surgeon removing excess skin in order to reposition the underlying tissue. Instead, the Brazilian butt lift is actually a variation of a fat transfer procedure, during which fat is extracted from one area of the body and injected into another. As part of your Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Schwartz will use liposuction to extract fat from a predetermined area of your body, depending on where you may have enough excess fat to spare. Typically, this fat is taken from the abdomen, flanks, or thighs. Once the fat has been separated and purified, Dr. Schwartz will precisely inject it into the buttocks in a distribution that will produce the most appealing end result.

AM I TOO THIN FOR A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT?

One of the most common concerns for patients considering a Brazilian butt lift is whether or not they are too skinny for the procedure. Unfortunately, not all patients will have enough excess fat elsewhere on their body to use in a Brazilian butt lift, though the majority do. During your initial one-on-one consultation at our state-of-the-art Beverly Hills facility, Dr. Schwartz will thoroughly evaluate you and be able to determine whether or not you are a candidate for a traditional Brazilian butt lift.

SHOULD I GAIN WEIGHT BEFORE MY BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT?

Many patients assume that gaining weight before a Brazilian butt lift may either give them a better chance of qualifying for the procedure or enhance their end results. However, it is highly recommended that patients do not gain weight before a Brazilian butt lift unless they are prepared to sustain that weight gain indefinitely after the procedure. The newly transferred fat will respond to weight gain and loss just like the fat on the rest of your body, so weight loss after a BBL can severely compromise your results and take you back to having a flat butt.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH FAT FOR A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT?

If it is determined that you don’t have enough fat to spare for a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Schwartz can discuss alternative options with you. Thinner women often benefit more from artificial butt implants, which can help them still achieve a full, round butt when there is not enough excess fat for transfer.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS OF A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT LAST?

As with any cosmetic surgery that requires a significant emotional, financial, and time investment, patients often wonder how long they will be able to enjoy their results. Patients can typically expect about 50-70% of the fat that was transferred during a BBL to survive, but it is essential that patients avoid direct pressure on the area for the first several weeks after the procedure in order to maintain as much of the fat as possible. Once the swelling has subsided and the surviving transferred fat has settled and established a blood supply, the final results of your Brazilian butt lift become visible. This usually takes about six months. When patients maintain a healthy, stable weight and a regular diet and exercise routine, they can enjoy the results of their Brazilian butt lift for many, many years to come. However, future weight fluctuations – including those associated with pregnancy and aging – can impact the results of a Brazilian butt lift.

HOW DO I FIND THE BEST BBL SURGEON IN BEVERLY HILLS?

For a procedure that requires the amount of finesse and artistry needed in a Brazilian butt lift, choosing a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon is crucial. Use your consultation as an opportunity to ask your surgeon about his/her training and experience, and read reviews about the surgeon, the facility, and the staff. It is also a good idea to browse a surgeon’s before-and-after photo galleries specifically showing Brazilian butt lift patients, so that you can get a better idea of your potential results.
