How Do Butt Implants Differ from A BBL?

A lack of roundness and natural-looking curvature of the buttocks can be caused by aging, genetics, and weight fluctuation. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jaime S. Schwartz offers his Beverly Hills patients access to the latest cosmetic technologies to achieve their ideal rear ends by participating in the signature Lipolift® Brazilian butt lift (BBL). Dr. Schwartz helps patients meet their aesthetic goals and provides them with customized BBL treatment plans that lead to desirable results.

What is a Brazilian butt lift (BBL)?

A BBL utilizes liposuction technology to extract fat from one part of the body and inject it into target treatment areas in the buttocks to add volume and roundness. Dr. Schwartz skillfully uses the Lipolift technique to perform a customized BBL. With his advanced training, Dr. Schwartz gives his patients natural, beautiful results without surgical butt implants.

How do butt implants differ from BBL?

Butt implants require the placement of artificial materials in the rear end via surgery to round out and shape the tissue. The BBL transfers the patient’s own fat cells from one area of the body to another. By using the patient’s own unique fat cells, the BBL comes with decreased risk for adverse reactions compared to butt implants. Patients who do not have enough natural fat to harvest for a BBL may be a better fit for implants or Renuva® (injectable freeze-dried fat).

What are the benefits of a BBL?

BBL comes with multiple aesthetic benefits, including:

  • Natural, contoured results

  • Slimmer, toned silhouette

  • Reduced fat in problem areas (abdomen, hips, thighs, etc.)

  • Almost immediately visible results

  • Reduced medical complications

  • Decreased appearance of cellulite

Am I an ideal candidate for a BBL?

Individuals are candidates for a BBL if they:

  • Have enough fat in extraction areas

  • Have sufficient skin laxity

  • Can maintain a healthy weight

  • Don’t have excessive sagging skin

  • Don’t want implants or other surgical devices

Dr. Schwartz performs comprehensive initial examinations to determine if a patient is a viable candidate for BBL. Individuals who are pregnant, want to become pregnant, have low body weight, or have specific medical conditions may not qualify for BBL.

What is the BBL treatment process like?

The BBL procedure is performed within the comforts of our clinic in Beverly Hills, CA. A BBL can be performed using local or general anesthesia. Once the treatment areas are cleaned and numbed, liposuction is used to extract fat cells from targeted harvesting areas. The fat cells are purified in a centrifuge and prepared for injection. After the fat cells are ready, the serum is injected into specific areas of the butt to shape and perk up the tissue. Patients can generally return home the same day of treatment for rest and recovery.

What can I expect during recovery?

Patients can expect temporary swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the injection sites in the extraction areas and the targeted treatment areas. During the first two weeks, patients should avoid placing excessive or prolonged weight on the butt to optimize healing. Dr. Schwartz sends patients home with recovery recommendations to care for incisions and short-term pain management.

How long do results last?

Patients start to notice BBL results once the initial swelling goes down. Full results begin to appear approximately 4 – 6 weeks after the procedure. BBL outcomes are designed to be long-lasting, and patients usually maintain 50 – 70% of the injected fat for several years. However, patients do risk losing or diminishing results if they experience dramatic weight fluctuations in the future.
