What is the Signature Tummy Tuck Procedure?

Dr. Schwartz's signature tummy tuck is best known for creating a contoured waistline while also defining the natural curves of the abdomen and the belly button.

Clients that would benefit from a standard tummy tuck have either lost a lot of weight or have stretched out their abdominal skin and muscles from pregnancy. Typically, the best candidate for a standard tummy tuck has skin laxity both above and below the belly button. With a standard tummy tuck, Dr. Schwartz can remove as much skin as possible while also tightening the abdominal wall muscles, giving you a tighter, shapelier waistline.

A variation of the standard tummy tuck called a Fleur De Lis tummy tuck may be performed for those that have had significant weight loss and would benefit from excision of a large amount of skin. Named for the floral shape of the incision pattern on the abdomen, the advantage of a Fleur De Lis tummy tuck is that the entire torso can be tightened up by removing a larger amount of loose skin from the abdomen.

What is a signature Mini Tummy Tuck procedure?

Similar to the standard tummy tuck, clients that are best suited for the mini tummy tuck are ones that have lost a lot of weight or have skin laxity from pregnancy, but in this case, the excess skin is mainly below the belly button. With this procedure, Dr. Jaime Schwartz can keep the scar extremely low on the abdomen since he will only be removing excess skin from the area below the belly button. During this procedure, an incision is made low on the abdomen, similar to the kind made in a C-section. Excess skin is then excised, and the lower abdominal wall muscles may also be tightened if necessary.

What is a signature extended Tummy Tuck Procedure?

For clients with skin laxity above and below the belly button, as well as around the hips and waist, a signature extended tummy tuck may be the best procedure. During a signature extended tummy tuck, Dr. Schwartz extends the incision around to the back to remove as much skin as possible from the abdomen, waist, and hips. With this procedure, the muscles of the abdomen can also be tightened if needed.

What is the Fleur de Lis tummy tuck technique?

This incision technique allows us to help patients with a significant amount of saggy skin on their stomach and around the waistline. During your procedure, we make a traditional tummy tuck incision, which runs horizontally just above the pubic area and a vertical incision that goes up the middle of your stomach. A Fleur de Lis tummy tuck is designed to remove excess skin on the tummy, whereas an extended tummy tuck removes saggy skin from the love handles and sides. Based on your needs and a thorough assessment, Dr. Schwartz will determine the best technique for you.

Internal Waist Trainer Signature Technique

Dr. Schwartz is the creator of the Internal Waist Trainer, a technique designed to complement a traditional Tummy Tuck by correcting the underlying muscles. Typically surgeons will remove the strong connective tissue called the Scarpa’s Fascia during Tummy Tuck procedures. However, with Dr. Schwartz's signature approach, he uses this layer to create the Internal Waist Trainer, which restructures and cinches in the waist for a more desired contour. This technique will also lift the lower region of the abdomen for an added pubic and thigh lift, resulting in a complete and permanent re-shape of the midsection that simulates a waist trainer.

What can I expect after a Tummy Tuck?

After your signature abdominoplasty, an abdominal girdle will be placed around the wound, which creates compression and helps the body to decrease any fluids. This girdle is worn between 3 – 6 weeks, or longer if needed. Dr. Schwartz will give you instructions for showering and changing the dressing, and you’ll be back in the office for a follow-up in a few days post-surgery. Dr. Schwartz recommends that you plan to take some time off from work and other regular activities for two weeks and that you get some extra help at home if you have young children. Only moderate exercise, such as walking, will be allowed at first to keep muscle tone, help reduce swelling, and lower the chance of blood clots.

How mUch does a Tummy Tuck cost?

Your cost for the procedure will vary based on the type of tummy tuck you have and whether or not it is combined with other procedures. During your consultation, Dr. Schwartz will discuss your options, and together, you will come up with a plan of treatment that is appropriate for you. Dr. Schwartz accepts all forms of payment and offers excellent financing options to make more procedures available to more patients.

Frequently Asked Questions about a signature Tummy Tuck

Should I receive Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?

For clients whose only concern is excess fat, liposuction may be used to treat the area successfully. Clients that their main concern is skin laxity or muscle stretching would benefit from one of Dr. Schwartz's signature tummy tucks. However, if someone has excess fat and skin laxity, they may benefit from Dr. Schwartz's LipoLift® Tummy Tuck, which combines fat removal, excess skin excision, and abdominal wall tightening.

Can I Combine Another surgery with a tummy tuck?

Many women seek out this procedure to address skin laxity and overstretched abdominal muscles following childbirth. A signature tummy tuck is often performed in conjunction with a breast lift – a combination procedure is known as a mommy makeover. Tummy tucks aren't just for women, though. Increasingly for guys, it is a go-to procedure for making your stomach look more toned and tight following weight loss. Although a tummy tuck may be done after weight loss, bear in mind that if you have lost a great deal of weight, you may benefit more from a body lift, which will not only take care of the tummy area but also refine the hips and buttocks as well.

Can I expect Scarring with a tummy tuck?

Scars are an unavoidable part of the surgery, but they don't have to detract from your results. Understanding the cause of imperfect scarring is the best way to minimize the chances of developing excessive scars you'll be unhappy with. By relieving tension on incision sites and using strategic patterns to hide scars beneath the natural folds of the body, Dr. Schwartz can do his best to prevent unsightly or excessive scarring. You can also be proactive by refraining from smoking during your recovery, getting proper nutrition, and carefully following your post-op guidelines. It can take up to nine months or even a year for the scars to fade. Ultimately, the scar line will be fine and easily hidden under your clothing or a bikini.

what happens if i get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

Most people undergoing a signature tummy tuck have finished having children. But if you do become pregnant after having a tummy tuck, it shouldn't interfere with the safety of your pregnancy. Depending on your procedures, we may have to do touch-ups or another procedure to restore your original results.
